78-year-old male underwent hemicolectomy because of an adenocarcinoma of the colon four years prior to demise.
At autopsy, the patient presented with hepatomegaly with formation of multiple tumor nodules.
The liver parenchyma is partly destroyed by infiltrations of a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma exhibiting extensive dirty necroses typical of
colorectal adenocarcinomas. In some parts, mucin deposits are observed.
The overall histology is similar to case A II 4 ; although, the mucinous component accounts for about 80% of
the tumor in that case. It is noteworthy that within the same tumor the amount of mucin may vary considerably depending on the section examined.
