Plattenepithelkarzinom HE

squamous cell carcinoma ICD-10: C34.9; ICD-O: 8070/3

Mann, 70 J., jahrelanger Nikotinabusus, chronische Bronchitis. Seit 1 Jahr inoperables zentrales Karzinom bekannt. Pneumonie. Autopsiepräparat.
 
- Lungengewebe mit grösserem Bronchus (Knorpel und Drüsen)
- Infiltrativ wachsender Tumor, bestehend aus teilweise Plattenepithel-ähnlich ausdifferenzierten Zellsträngen mit geringer parakeratotischer Verhornung und herdförmig erkennbaren Interzellularbrücken
- Meist relativ grosse Tumorzellen mit z.T. ausgeprägter Polymorphie. Prominente Nukleolen. Pathologische Mitosefiguren
- Nekrotische Tumorbezirke
- Desmoplastische Stromareaktion: Vom Tumor induzierte, selbst aber nicht neoplastische Fibroblastenproliferation
- Entzündliche Infiltrate im Stroma
- am Rande nicht invasives dysplastisches Plattenepithel
 

70-year-old male, nicotine abuse, chronic bronchitis. Inoperable central carcinoma detected 1 year previously. Pneumonia. Autopsy specimen.

- Lung tissue with large bronchi (cartilage and glands Drüsen)
- Tumour with infiltrative growth (Tumor), partly consisting of cell strands resembling squamous epithelium with low-grade parakeratotic keratinisation (Verhornung) and clusters of intercellular bridges (Interzellularbrücken)
- Most of the tumour cells are relatively large, some highly polymorphous. Prominent nucleoli. Pathological mitotic figures.
- Necrotic tumour areas
- Desmoplastic stromal reaction (Desmoplastische Stromareaktion): tumour-induced but not neoplastic fibroblast proliferation
- Inflammatory infiltrates in stroma
- The border non-invasive dysplastic squamous epithelium (dysplastisches Plattenepithel)
