51-year-old female suffered for years from headaches for the treatment of which she consumed
analgesics containing phenacetin. She developed gross hematuria and underwent nephrectomy of the left kidney.
- A section of the kidney is shown.
- A papillary tumor is found in the renal pelvis exhibiting polymorphic tumor cells and numerous mitoses.
- Cords and nests of poorly differentiated tumor cells infiltrate into the renal parenchyma (invasive urothelial carcinoma, high grade)
- Tumor demarcated by an inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes.
